What to Expect When Your Pet
Returns Home after Boarding

Your pet will undoubtedly be happy to see you after your trip. Following a few simple steps will help ease the transition back to home life.

  • Overexcitement may make a dog pant a lot and act thirsty; however they may not really be thirsty because they have had water available to them until just prior to being picked up. Limit their water intake for the first couple of hours after they return home.

  • We generally do not feed dogs prior to being picked up. Check with us to see if your dog has dog has eaten. If your dog is taking medications, check to see if your dog needs for their dose for that time period. You should wait for a couple of hours before feeding your dog once home.

  • The excitement and/or stress of boarding may cause a change in their bathroom schedule. Please take your dog out for a bathroom break once home.

  • Re-establish your routine with your dog over the next couple of days. Dogs love to follow a schedule!

  • Give your pet some personalized attention. Some play time or sitting and petting or brushing will help them get through the excitement stage and calm down.

  • A stay at a pet care facility can be very exciting and tiring especially if the dog participated in the daycare program. These dogs often leave the facility exhausted but happy, and sleep a lot for the first couple of days they are home.

  • Although we do everything possible to prevent this, your dog may become ill during or after his stay. Being in a kennel environment is similar to a child’s daycare or classroom. If your dog has never been exposed to this type of environment, the stress of the change in your dog’s routine can suppress their immune system. This makes them more susceptible to illness.

  • If your dog shows signs of an illness once home, please contact us to let us know.

  • If you have any questions or concerns regarding your pet’s behavior once you return home, please contact us so we can discuss them with you.
